General Motors is mum about the Adra’s production plans and also about the engines and gearboxes that the compact SUV will be made available with. The initial buzz emerging around the Adra puts a 2017 time frame for this concept’s production debut. In other words, waiting for this SUV doesn’t make any sense for someone in the market for a compact product such as the Ford EcoSport or the Renault Duster.

Coming to a diesel engine option for the Adra, things should be relatively straight forward. As General Motors has a small capacity turbo diesel engine ready in the form of the 1.3 liter SDE unit that’s used on the likes of the Chevrolet Sail twins and the Enjoy MPV, finding diesel power for the Adra shouldn’t be a bother.

From the looks of it though, the Adra seems to have a future, given its positioning as an SUV for the emerging car markets of the world. The Adra will give General Motors a much needed foothold in the compact SUV segment that’s dominated by the likes of the Ford EcoSport and the Renault Duster. The coming months should throw more light on General Motors’ production plans for the Adra.
