All-New 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift: 10 things to know!

Suzuki has recently showcased the new Swift Hybrid in Japan, which returns a masssive fuel efficiency. With the reports suggesting that the car will come to the Indian market sometime next year, we are here to talk about 10 things that you need to know about the upcoming Swift Hybrid.

How much fuel efficiency can you get from new Swift hybrid?

Suzuki has not revealed much abou the upcoming Swift’s powertrain. However, the vehicle is powered by a new Z12 engine, which will be more efficient compared to the current K12 engine that powers the vehicle. With the strong hybrid system in play, the upcoming hatchback can return up to 35 km/l of fuel efficiency.

How does the hybrid system of new Swift hybrid works?

It is similar to the Grand Vitara’s strong hybrid powertrain. In a conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle, the engine is the sole source of power. However, in the case of this strong hybrid version, the car utilizes a combination of an internal combustion engine and an electric motor, which is powered by a lithium-ion battery pack. When the Swift hybrid is started, it initially utilizes the electric motor for propulsion. During this time, the car operates similar to an electric vehicle (EV), providing a quiet and smooth ride, while also enhancing fuel efficiency.

The power control unit in this hybrid hatchback intelligently switches between petrol and electric drive modes based on the driving situation. The battery pack automatically recharges itself while the car is running on the engine.

Can Swift hybrid run solely on electric power?

 

The Swift also includes an ‘EV mode’ similar to the Grand Vitara, where the electric motor takes full control and operates solely on power from the battery. However, the EV mode in the Swift has a limited range and is not as extensive as that of pure electric vehicles.

What will be the price of new Swift Hybrid?

The hybrid variants of the new Swift will be expensive. Taking the example of Grand Vitara, the price differnce between the mild-hybrid and storng-hybrid variants is about Rs 2.7 lakh. It might the similar for the Swift. The top-end hybrid variants might cost well over Rs 12 lakh, if they come to the Indian market.

Will the new Swift available without hybrid?

Yes, just like the Grand Vitara, which is available in both strong and mild hybrid variants, the new Swift will get a mild hybrid system as well.

Is the new upcoming Swift bigger than the current version?

The upcoming Suzuki Swift will be built on an improved version of the current Heartect platform, which serves as the foundation for various other vehicles produced by the carmaker. The new Swift will have larger dimensions compared to the existing version available in India. The Swift displayed at the Japan Auto Show on October 25 measures 3,860 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width, and 1,500 mm in height. The length has increased by approximately 15 mm, while the height and width have decreased by 40 mm and 30 mm respectively. The wheelbase size remains unchanged at 2,540 mm.

Does the new Swift hybrid looks different?

While the overall design and shape of the Swift remain unchanged, it has been refreshed to have a more modern and muscular appearance. The front now features a rounded grille with a honeycomb pattern, sleeker LED headlamps, and daytime running lights (DRLs).

The side profile retains the “floating roof” design language, while the rear door handles have been repositioned on the doors instead of the C-pillar, as in the current version. Additionally, the Swift sports newly designed alloy wheels.

At the rear, there are updates to the tailgate design and the bumper, along with revamped taillights that incorporate C-shaped lighting elements and black inserts.

Will the new Swift get a new cabin?

The upcoming Swift will feature significant changes on the interior compared to its exterior. Even though the cabin layout remains similar to the likes of Fronx,  it will come with a slew of new features, including a dual-tone dashboard, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that stands independently, a modern digital driver display, and other enhancements. Additional updates are also anticipated, such as an electric sunroof, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging capability, as well as wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. The new Swift also gets ADAS capabilities.

When will the new Swift launch in India?

Suzuki showcased the concept version of the new Swift at the Japan Mobility Show. However, the production version will be very similar to the concept version. The launch in India is likely to happen in 2024. To be more specific, the new Swift will come to the Indian market by the July or August of next year.

Will the hybrid version of Swift come to India?

We are not sure about the launch of the hybrid version of Swift in India. As it is a budget hatchback and the hybrid technology will jack up the price massively, Maruti Suzuki might give it a miss completley. But, we might get to see the new hybrid Swift in India.
