Renault is gearing up to electrify India’s SUV market with the launch of its new Duster in 2025, setting the stage for increased competition in the midsize SUV segment. The French automobile manufacturer’s sister brand, Dacia, recently unveiled the new Duster in Portugal, with plans to commence sales in Europe early next year before expanding to other markets. Renault is eyeing the Indian market for the new Duster, with a projected entry in the second half of 2025.

The design of the new Duster is based on the CMF-B platform, drawing inspiration from the Bigster concept. Sporting distinctive Y-shaped LED daytime running lights and taillights, robust fenders, and rugged cladding, the SUV promises a modern and durable look.

Inside the cabin, the Y-shaped theme continues with an all-new dashboard featuring a 10.1-inch touchscreen oriented towards the driver. The interior is equipped with a 3-spoke steering wheel and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, emphasizing a contemporary design.

Top-tier features on the Duster include wireless charging, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, automatic climate control, and an Arkamys 3D sound system with six speakers. Notably, the SUV incorporates Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technology, encompassing features such as automatic emergency braking, vehicle, pedestrian, cyclist, and motorcycle detection, traffic sign recognition with speeding alert, rear parking assistant, lane change warning and assist, among others.

The Duster offers three engine options, two of which are electrified. The 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol hybrid, featuring two electric motors, comes with an automatic gearbox, regenerative braking, and a 1.2kWh battery, enabling electric driving for up to 80 percent of city driving. Another powertrain option is the 130hp, 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol coupled with a 48V starter motor. Notably, there is no diesel option available.

Maintaining its predecessor’s tradition, the new Duster offers both 4×2 and 4×4 options, with the latter being exclusive to the 1.2-litre mild-hybrid powertrain. While lacking a traditional 4×4 setup, the Duster incorporates terrain modes such as Auto, Snow, Mud/Sand, off-road, and Eco, offering versatility for various driving conditions. Off-road capabilities are enhanced with hill-descent control for speeds up to 30kph, displaying pertinent information on the multimedia screen.

Expected to launch in India in 2025, the new Duster will compete with popular models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder in the competitive midsize SUV segment. The SUV will be available in both 5-seat and 7-seat configurations, offering Indian consumers a compelling and versatile choice in the SUV market.
