2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift vs Hyundai Grand i10 Nios: Comparison

Maruti Suzuki has launched the much-anticipated Swift fourth generation in India with a starting price of Rs 6.49 lakh. Now, we all know that the Swift is the most popular hatchback in the country in the budget segment. However, only today we know about how exactly it stacks up against its old-time rival Hyundai Grand i10 Nios after this generation change. Starting off the comparison with the design details of the new Swift. We all have seen that the 2024 Swift now gets a much sleeker-looking LED headlight setup with L-shaped LED DRLs. It also gets LED fog lights and a honeycomb pattern grille in gloss black.

On the side profile, it looks very similar as it shares the same silhouette of the outgoing model. However, there are a few subtle changes such as a new shoulder line, traditional rear door handles, and 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

The rear of the car has also been made more premium with the help of new C-Shaped LED taillights. It also gets a rear wiper, washer, and defogger. Now in terms of overall design, it has evolved a lot from the outgoing model. And this is a good thing. Grand i10 Nios

Coming to the exterior design of the new Grand i10 Nios. This hatchback features a much quirkier European design language. At the front, it also gets a gloss black grille, single projector LED headlights, and Y-shaped LED DRLs on the lower bumper.

It features a more tallboy design, and like the first debuted model, the facelifted model continues to boast the same silhouette. The rear has been revised in the newly facelifted model, and it now gets a more modern-looking LED taillight setup which is now connected.

Verdict

In terms of its comparison with the new Swift, the Grand i10 Nios’ design may not be everyone’s cup of tea. As stated, it looks a little quirky with its headlight and taillight shape, but it is not ugly by any means. It looks a little taller than the Swift.

Interior comparison

Swift

For the 2024 model year, Maruti Suzuki has completely revamped the interior of the Swift. It now gets a multi-layered design with a lot of new elements. It has also been given a lot more features than the outgoing model.

The top-spec Swift now comes with a 9-inch Smartplay Pro infotainment screen, automatic climate control, steering-mounted controls, push-button start and stop, and a lot more features.

Grand i10 Nios

The Grand i10 Nios also gets a decent-looking interior. It gets a dual-tone interior scheme with beige on the middle and lower parts and black on top. The center of the Grand i10 is dominated by an 8-inch screen.

It also comes with features such as rear AC vents, automatic climate control, a wireless charger, and USB type C ports. The car also comes with a tire pressure monitoring system and cruise control system as well.

Verdict

Now coming to the comparison of the two interiors. We would have picked the Hyundai Grand i10 on any day of the week before the launch of the new Swift. The old Swift’s interior felt cheap and outdated in comparison to the Grand i10.

However, as the Swift has now undergone a massive interior rejuvenation, we now get a much more premium and modern-looking dashboard. Additionally, it now also comes with almost each and every feature offered on the Grand i10, which was not there before. So in terms of the interior, the Swift looks a lot better now.

Drivetrain comparison

Swift

Maruti Suzuki has ditched the old reliable 1.2-liter K-Series naturally four-cylinder petrol engine of the Swift. It has now given it the new Z-Series Z12E 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol engine. This engine now produces 81 bhp and 112 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission with an option of choosing a five-speed automatic.

In terms of mileage, the Swift with the manual transmission offers 24.8 kmpl. Meanwhile, the one with the AMT gearbox offers 25.75 kmpl. The company may have lost a cylinder and some power, but it has gained 15 percent in fuel economy.

Grand i10 Nios

The Grand i10, on the other hand, also comes equipped with a 1.2-liter petrol engine. This engine produces a maximum power of 83 bhp and 113 Nm of torque. It is also offered with a 5-speed manual and an AMT gearbox.

In terms of mileage, the Grand i10 Nios offers a fuel efficiency of 20.7 kmpl with the manual transmission. Meanwhile, it offers 20.1 kmpl with the AMT gearbox.

Verdict

Now coming to the comparison of these two engines, the biggest difference is that the Swift now gets a 3-cylinder engine. Meanwhile, the Grand i10 Nios gets a four-cylinder engine. Generally, four-cylinder engines are a little more refined than the 3-cylinder units. However, nobody has driven the new Swift yet, so it is hard to comment on it.

If you are one of those buyers who prefer the smoothness of an engine, then you should go ahead with the Grand i10 Nios. However, if you are someone who has their eye on the fuel gauge, then you should opt for the new Swift. There is a massive difference of 5 kmpl between the two hatchbacks.

The 2024 Swift has been launched with a starting price of Rs 6.49 lakh and goes up to Rs 9.65 lakh. On the other hand, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios starts at Rs 5.92 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 8.56 lakh. So if you are on a strict budget, then the Grand i10 Nios is the one for you. However, if you want to save on fuel costs, then you can pay the premium for the new Swift and drive it home.
