Tata Safari, one of the popular players in the Indian 7-seater SUV segment, is available in a total of 29 variants. The SUV is offered at a broad price range of Rs. 16.19 lakhs to Rs. 27.34 lakhs catering to various consumers. Today, we will cover the second base variant of the Tata Safari which is the Smart optional via a YouTube video uploaded by sansCARi sumit.

The base variant of Tata Safari is the Smart trim but multiple sources suggest that this trim is rarely available. Most of the consumers are forced to choose the Smart Optional trim. Regarding the price difference, the Smart Optional costs just Rs. 50,000 more than the Smart trim. Now, let’s delve into the details of this variant.

The host starts with the front fascia of the SUV which surprisingly comes with LED connected DRLs and LED turn indicators. Both of these features are rarely seen in the base variant of any car. Additionally, even the headlamps are LED projector units. However, fog lamps are not offered here. The glossy black grille adds to the aesthetics of the SUV. Overall, the front look of the car is very bold and aggressive.

Regarding the side profile, you may be shocked to see alloy wheels in a base variant of a car. No other manufacturer does it but Tata has offered 17-inch alloy wheels in the most basic trim of the Safari. These are the same alloy wheels which were offered in the top trim of pre-facelift Safari.

Following the overall theme of the car, the ORVMs are finished in glossy black while the door handles are body colored. Roof rails are also offered in this variant. The ORVMs are not electrically foldable but they are electrically adjustable. Also, the indicators are LED and they are integrated in the ORVMs.

The rear profile of the car also gets an all-LED treatment with connected taillights. Even the indicators are LED. Essential features such as rear wiper with washer, reverse parking camera and defogger are missing. Two reverse parking sensors are offered.

Now, let’s talk about the interior of the car. Basic features such as an infotainment system, speakers and steering mounted controls are missing. However, soft touch materials on the doors and touch based auto AC controls are offered.

The driver side seat does not offer height adjustment which may be a major letdown for some. Another major feature which is missing is the remote lock/unlock. Tata has offered central locking in this variant but they are not offering a remote. The instrument cluster is fully digital.

Regarding the pricing, the Smart optional variant of the Safari costs Rs. 16.69 lakhs ex-showroom. This variant is only available with the option of a manual transmission.
The Tata Safari is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine which delivers a power output of 170 PS and a torque of 350 Nm. Consumers can opt for a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Tata does not offer a petrol engine in the Safari or the Harrier.
