36 year-old Maruti SS80 restored to factory condition [Video]

The Maruti SS80 is undoubtedly one of the most legendary cars in Indian automotive history. The model was first introduced in the country in 1983, and it quickly gained a huge following. The car, even after four decades, is still popular among vintage car lovers, and recently, a restoration video of one such iconic car was shared online. The video showcases the complete journey of transformation of this small hatchback from bare metal to showroom condition.

The restoration and delivery video of the 36-year-old Maruti SS80 has been shared on YouTube by Autostarke on their channel. The video starts off with the owner of the car telling the story behind his love for cars, especially the Maruti SS80. He states that his love for cars began during his childhood. He mentioned that he became obsessed with cars and then went on to develop an interest in classic and vintage cars.

The owner goes on to elaborate that he came across the Maruti SS80, which at the time was imported from Japan. He believed that it was a pocket rocket, and when he sat behind the wheel of the red-colored SS80, he immediately fell in love. Following this, he then mentioned that on that day he decided that he wants to own this iconic hatchback one day. The owner then highlights that this delivery day is the day where he will begin his journey as an owner of the Maruti SS80, which he has named Hebe.

Following this, the presenter in his interview mentions that when it comes to the restoration of a classic car, there are a few important things. He states that the most important one is perfection. Moving on, he added that when he started his search for his dream SS80 for restoration, the age, shape, or condition did not matter to him. He added that with the expertise of Autostarke, he knew that they could create his dream with any base car they could find.

Next up, the owner of the car revealed that after he found the car he loved, he brought it to the Autostarke workshop where the technicians stripped the whole car to bare metal and began the restoration work. He mentioned that the car was then restored to perfection by the shop. He stated that this car has been given a rebirth and now looks exactly like how it came from the factory in 1985.

The Maruti SS80, for those unaware, is one of the most influential cars to ever become available for sale in India. This small hatchback was launched as an affordable, fuel-efficient vehicle, which later became extremely popular for its merits over more expensive automobiles available in India. The SS80 featured the iconic, simple yet functional compact design that resonated with a ton of families in the country.

The Maruti SS80 was offered in the country with a 796cc, 3-cylinder, 4-stroke engine that produced around 37 bhp, which at the time was plenty. This small-engined car became immensely popular for its fuel economy in the country at a time when every buyer was fuel-price sensitive.
