Mahindra and Mahindra-owned Classic Legends, owns the iconic British motorcycle brand BSA Motorcycles. The classic British brand has now announced that it will be making its return to India with its Gold Star 650 motorcycle. It will be making its debut in India on August 15, 2024. The Gold Star 650 was globally unveiled back in 2021, and buyers in India have been awaiting its launch. The BSA Gold Star 650 will be taking on the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650.

BSA Gold Star 650: Launch Details

The BSA Gold Star 650 has piqued the interest of a lot of people. As mentioned, it will finally be making its way to India on August 15th this year. In true Mahindra fashion, this bike will become the talking point of this year’s Independence Day of India. Classic Legends has already teased this iconic British brand’s bike with a strong legacy in motorcycling.

The upcoming British motorcycle BSA Gold Star 650 takes significant design cues from the original Gold Star models. These bikes were some of the most popular models in the market back in the 1950s and 60s. The new model will boast a retro profile that will include a lot of chrome accents.

There will be chrome on the headlamp, instrument console, rearview mirrors, fuel tank, engine, and exhaust. It will also get a tear-drop-shaped fuel tank, a flat seat, round headlamps, and wire-spoked wheels.

As for the underpinnings, this motorcycle will utilize a tubular steel dual cradle frame. The Gold 650 will offer a wheelbase of 1425 mm and a seat height of 780 mm. In terms of features, it will come equipped with a semi-digital instrument console with a multi-function LCD display and an offset fuel filler cap.

BSA Gold Star 650: Mechanical Specifications

Mechanically, the Gold Star 650 will be a sturdy bike and feature 41 mm telescopic front forks and twin rear shocks with 5-step preload adjustability. Braking duties will be handled by a 320 mm front disc and a 255 mm rear disc. It comes with the popular Brembo calipers, with dual-channel ABS provided as standard.

In terms of the powerplant that will propel this iconic bike, it will come equipped with a 652 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, DOHC, 4-valve engine with twin spark plugs. This engine will be capable of producing 45 bhp and 55 Nm of torque.

As for the gearbox, it will come paired with a 5-speed gearbox featuring a slip and assist clutch. The bike will boast a fuel tank capacity of 12 liters, and its kerb weight will be 213 kg.

Royal Enfield 650: Watch Out!

Once launched, the BSA Gold Star 650 will be competing directly with the already popular Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. The Royal Enfield Interceptor is powered by a 648 cc parallel-twin engine. So far, this bike has won over a ton of motorcycle enthusiasts in the country.

The Interceptor’s engine produces 46.8 bhp and 52.3 Nm of torque. However, despite being similar in terms of power, the Interceptor 650 offers a slightly different riding experience compared to the Gold Star’s single-cylinder configuration.

Both of these cruising bikes feature retro-inspired designs, but the Gold Star leans more heavily on chrome and vintage styling cues. On the other hand, the Interceptor offers a more understated, classic look.

As per the reports, the BSA Gold Star 650 is expected to be priced between Rs 3 lakh to Rs 3.3 lakh. The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 currently starts at Rs 3 lakh. Many experts believe that the BSA Gold Star can easily disrupt the popularity of the Interceptor 650 in India once it is launched in the country.
