bengaluru traffic police kia carens sunroof fine

Over the last few years, we have seen numerous incidents where people have allowed their young kids to stand out of the sunroofs of their cars. In most cases, parents of such kids get away with this. However, recently a driver from Bengaluru was found and fined Rs 1000 by Bengaluru Traffic Police. Netizens have appreciated this quick response from the Traffic Police Department.

The video of this incident was originally shared on X by Sukesh V Suvarna on their page. In this short clip, it can be noted that there is a lot of traffic. In between, there is a Kia Carens MPV which shows two kids sticking out their heads on the sunroof.

As per the post, this happened on the busy Marathahalli Main Road. In this same post, the user has tagged the Bangalore police. The post stated, “This is why we Indians don’t deserve features like sunroof in cars. Brainless and senseless parents do this with their kids! That too in heavy traffic, where the risk of sudden braking is very high. This was on Marathahalli outer ring road. @blrcitytraffic @3rdEyeDude.”

This particular case of kids putting their heads out of a moving vehicle is not a one-off incident. Instead, incidents like these happen very often on Indian roads. A few months ago, a video of three children sitting on the roof of a brand-new Mahindra XUV300 was shared online. In this video, their father was driving slowly through the streets.

Proper Usage of Sunroofs

A lot of Indian car buyers are now opting for cars with sunroofs. This feature, which was once considered a luxury feature for high-end cars, is now available in many affordable vehicles in India. While they enhance a vehicle’s aesthetic appeal and allow fresh air to circulate, they also present potential hazards if misused.

Before talking about how to properly use a sunroof, it has to be understood how to not use a sunroof. Now, as you may have guessed, the first thing is to not stick out of the sunroof. Drivers should not allow occupants, especially children, to stick their heads or bodies out of the sunroof.

Sudden braking or sharp turns can result in severe injuries or ejection from the vehicle. Also, engaging in distracting activities like taking selfies or recording videos while sticking out of the sunroof increases the risk of accidents.

In addition, not paying attention to the surroundings, such as low-hanging branches, wires, or debris from other vehicles, can lead to serious injuries. Now, coming to the only acceptable way to properly use a sunroof: it should be used only to allow fresh air to circulate inside the vehicle without sticking any body part out.
