Last-Gen Maruti WagonR Modified To Look Like A Volkswagen Beetle

Vehicle modification is illegal in India. Traffic police and the Motor Vehicles Department of various states take strict action against the owners of such vehicles. Even with so many restrictions, people have not stopped modifying their vehicles. Some of them customize or modify their vehicles, while others convert their vehicles completely. Here we have a video where a Maruti Suzuki WagonR has been converted to look like a Volkswagen Beetle.

The Volkswagen Beetle is an iconic car and a hatchback that carries a lot of history. Volkswagen has officially discontinued the Beetle. We are not here to talk about its history. The video seen here has been shared by Magnet Customs on their YouTube channel. In this video, the vlogger talks about how they restored an old conversion project.

The car was initially built for a customer 12 years ago. The project is based on a Maruti WagonR hatchback. We get a glimpse of the donor car at the beginning. The car was completely converted. The front bumper, bonnet, grille, headlamps, and fender were all removed. The roof was chopped off. The rear of the car was also taken down.

The car was then redesigned to look like a Beetle. The front bonnet and fender were made from scratch. The A-pillar of the car also looks redesigned. The fender was fabricated in such a manner that it appeared bulky. The wheels on the car were the same as those used on the WagonR. However, the alloys were different.

The front bonnet had panel gaps, and the aftermarket headlamps gave it a weird look. The same was the case with the rear. The 4-door hatchback was converted into a 2-door convertible. The condition of the car was really bad, probably because the owner had not used it for a very long time.

In this video, we see that the old paint job and body fillers had started to come off. That is why the workshop decided to give it a new look by repainting it. Initially, they removed the old paint from the body panels. Once this was done, they worked on the dents and other undulations on the panels.

They applied putty on the body panels to achieve an even look. The excess putty was sanded off. After this, a coat of primer was applied. Then, the first coat of paint was applied, and once that dried, another coat of deep blue shade was sprayed. This changed the overall look of the car. A layer of clear coat was applied, and then rubbing and polishing work was done to enhance the glossiness.

The headlamps and tail lamps on this car are different from the older version, and it now looks a lot weirder than before. The interior remains the same as the WagonR. Some of the panels were painted to match the exterior shade.

It is definitely a conversion job; however, we cannot call it a good-looking replica of the Volkswagen Beetle. There are a lot of things wrong with this car, especially the parts used or fabricated and the proportions.
