Generally, when a car rolls over 7 times, it is believed that the occupants in it will suffer extremely badly. However, this is not what happened in a recent terrifying accident in California. It has been reported that a Tesla Model Y electric SUV rolled over 7 times before finally coming to a halt. Thankfully, not a single person inside the vehicle suffered any major injury. This accident also garnered the attention of Tesla’s billionaire CEO, Elon Musk.

The video of this particular accident has been shared on X by Mario Nawfal. In the short clip, it can be noted that a Tesla Model Y SUV was launched in the air, and it was seen rolling over more than 7 times. It then finally came to a stop in the middle of the road.

As per the reports, this incident occurred at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Orangethorpe Avenue in Buena Park. The timing of this accident has been reported to be around 4 pm. Soon after this accident took place, people around that area and emergency services arrived at the location.

What happened?

According to the sources, the driver of the Tesla was reportedly speeding. Some have even estimated that this SUV was being driven at speeds upwards of 100 mph (160 km/h). This excessive speed then caused the driver to lose control, which eventually caused the vehicle to flip over into the lanes of oncoming traffic and involved six vehicles in total.

Aftermath of the Crash

The crash resulted in significant damage, which can be noted from the video. Firefighters from the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) managed to rescue two individuals, including the Tesla driver, from the wreckage. A third person was found lying on the grass near the crash site.

All three individuals were then quickly transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. It has been reported that all of them were safe and no one suffered any serious injuries. Following the accident, it has been stated that the police are currently investigating the cause of the crash. They are suspecting the possibility of the involvement of alcohol or drugs.

Elon Musk’s Reaction

Soon after the video of this crash was shared on X, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and owner of X, responded. He commented on the post, “Safety is our primary design goal.” In addition to Musk, a number of Tesla owners and fans also added that Tesla cars are extremely safe.

Tesla Model Y

As mentioned, the vehicle involved in this accident was a Tesla Model Y. It is an SUV which currently sits underneath the Model X in the Tesla lineup. The SUV has been rewarded with 5-star safety ratings in all categories, including adult occupant protection and child occupant protection.

One of the key safety attributes of the Model Y is its strong and rigid structure. This SUV is made with high-strength steel and aluminum. It has been designed to absorb and dissipate impact forces efficiently. What is also an added benefit of the Tesla Model Y is its low center of gravity.

This has been made possible because of the low placement of its battery pack. This SUV, along with other Tesla cars, is known for its stability and reduces the risk of rollovers. Apart from these, the Model Y comes equipped with numerous active safety features, including Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology.

This advanced driver-assistance system includes features such as automatic emergency braking, collision warning, and lane-keeping assist. Another significant safety aspect of the Tesla Model Y is its use of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. These batteries are known for their stability and safety compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries.

LFP batteries are less prone to overheating and have a lower risk of thermal runaway. It can be noted that despite this horrific crash, the batteries did not explode and cause a fire. Any ICE vehicle in its place would have started to burn.
