2024 BMW 5-Series Luxury Sedan Unveiled Before Official Launch

The German luxury carmaker BMW will launch the all-new 2024 5-Series Long Wheelbase (LWB) on July 24. However, prior to the official launch, the company has unveiled this new sedan in the Indian car market. This time around, the 5-Series will be offered with a much larger wheelbase, which will help it in offering a much better experience for the rear passengers. This time around, the new 5-Series has been designed from the ground up and takes design inspiration from the much more expensive 7-Series.

2024 BMW 5-Series: Details

The 2024 BMW 5-Series LWB boasts the most impressive dimensions in its class. It will be 5,175 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,520 mm in height. As for the wheelbase, it will measure 3,105 mm, which will significantly enhance the interior space, particularly in the rear. According to reports, it will be larger than the upcoming Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB.

Exterior Design

In terms of the exterior design, the German automaker has completely designed the new 5-Series LWB from scratch. It does not share any design elements from the previous generation model. At the front, it gets the iconic kidney grille that has been revised with a more modern and pronounced look.

 

It is flanked by twin-pod swept-up LED headlamps that feature new LED daytime running lights (DRLs). Additionally, the front bumper is sharper, with well-defined lines that add to the car’s aggressive stance. The particular model shown at the unveiling also featured gold grille surrounds, and the same were seen on the lower portion as well.

Coming on to the side profile, it gets flush door handles, the same gold-colored surrounds for the windows, and a 5 badge in the same golden element behind the rear quarter glass. This particular M-Sport variant of the new 5-Series was seen with an 18-inch alloy wheel. The company will also be offering optional 19-inch wheels, which will look more futuristic.

 

Coming to the rear, it will feature slim wraparound LED taillights that look inspired by the new 7-Series and i7. They will have three LED horizontal lines that look very sleek. It will also get a sculpted rear bumper that integrates reflectors. It will also get a sloping roofline that merges smoothly into the trunk. It gives it a coupe-like silhouette.

Interior Design and Features

 

As for the interior of the new 2024 5-Series LWB, it too has been completely redesigned. The new sedan will feature a much more modern, clean, and sophisticated layout with cutting-edge technology. The center of the dashboard will be dominated by a 14.9-inch curved display.

It will be offered with the latest BMW Operating System 8.5. This screen will also be accompanied by a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster sitting behind the new 3-spoke steering wheel. The new 5-Series will also feature open-pore wood trim, metal speaker grilles, and premium soft-touch surfaces.

Additional Features

The front seats of the new BMW 5-Series will come with ventilation and offer the standard power adjustment functions. Coming to the rear seating area, it will benefit from the extended wheelbase. It will offer the rear passengers increased legroom and headroom.

The seats are fixed but feature thick cushioning and are angled at a comfortable 31 degrees. Sadly, there will be no adjustment despite being the LWB variant. However, the rear seat passengers will get a fixed moon roof, neck pillows, a touchscreen for climate control, and a wireless phone charger.

Speaking of wireless phone chargers, both front and rear will get wireless charging pads. The car will also come with an 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system, multi-zone climate control, and vents that are integrated into the dashboard and will be electronically controlled.

BMW 5-Series LWB: Powertrain Options

 

The 2024 5-Series LWB is expected to offer a range of powerful and efficient engines. Initial offerings will likely include 2.0-liter turbo-petrol and diesel engines. Both of these engines will come equipped with a mild-hybrid system and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

BMW is also planning to introduce more powerful variants like the 530d and 530i in M-Sport guises at a later date. All engines will power the rear wheels. The xDrive all-wheel-drive is expected to be available only with the next-generation M5 in 2025.

Pricing and Competition

The new BMW 5-Series LWB is expected to be priced between Rs. 85 lakh and Rs. 1 crore. Once launched, it will be competing with the likes of its long-term rivals such as the upcoming Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Audi A6.
