Mahindra has been actively conducting experiential drives and campaigns with the BE 6 and XEV 9e, across the country. We have seen them send the car to many public figures and celebrities, for them to experience and collect feedback. A few days back, we saw Bollywood actor John Abraham take test drives of the electric SUVs, and later share his feedback on video. Now, Mahindra’s ex-marketing head Vivek Nayer got to experience the vehicles in detail and has shared his detailed feedback on the same.
Neyar seems to be more impressed by the BE 6. He thinks that it looks butch and sporty. The XEV 9e, on the other hand, is sporty and elegant. He says that the suspension in the BE 6 (and the XEV) is brilliant. Mahindra has given these electric-origin SUVs a semi-active suspension setup.
This strikes a perfect balance between ride quality and dynamics. Nayer says that when he drove through a couple of speed-breakers which he tackles daily, the experience was so good that he hardly felt the breakers inside. The suspension gets a 5-link rear setup.
Both the BE 6 and XEV 9e are based on the indigenously developed INGLO platform. This is a scalable and modular born-electric skateboard architecture. It makes generous use of ultra-high-strength boron steel and is lightweight. It has a flat-floor design and has a low centre of gravity.
The INGLO will be able to support various body styles and vehicle dimensions, and all three of AWD, FWD and RWD layouts. This essentially means that Mahindra could possibly base the Thar EV on the same architecture if they wished to! (But hey, no such hints yet!)
Nayer further says that he loved the music system on the electric SUVs. He says it feels like sitting in a concert hall. The XEV and BE 6 come with a 1400-watt Harman Kardon music system that has 16 speakers. It also comes with Dolby Atmos and has become the first Indian car to get one. Mahindra has put in a lot of effort to design and tune this audio system.
He further says that the ‘Drive in, Drive out’ feature also managed to impress him. You can use the vehicle key to drive the BE 6 and XEV 9e into and out of the parking space. This can be very convenient in many real-life scenarios.

The BE 6 and XEV 9e come with two battery packs- 59kWh and 79kWh. These LFP batteries have been sourced from BYD and feature Cell-to-pack technology. These are further claimed to offer good safety, durability, and efficiency. Both the electric SUVs are capable of charging via a 175kW DC fast charger. Mahindra says that 20-80% rejuicing will only take 20 minutes. The
The powertrain of Mahindra’s Electric origin SUVs consists of a rear mounted electric motor, an inverter and a transmission. The electric motor can produce up to 286hp on the regular variants, and have been sourced from Valeo.
The BE 6 will also have an AWD variant in the future, featuring an additional front-axle mounted electric motor, as well. It will thus have a significantly larger motor output. The BE 6 AWD will then become the fastest Mahindra built to date!
