Maruti eVX Electric SUV Almost Here: Production Version On Test

Maruti eVX launch soon?

Maruti Suzuki’s first-ever electric vehicle for the Indian market is going to be the eVX. The concept for this SUV was showcased at the Auto Expo last year, and it is expected to be launched in the market late this year or early next year. Maruti has been working on this electric SUV extensively, and we have spotted this SUV on the road a couple of times. Here we have a new spy picture of the upcoming electric SUV. From the image, it looks like the manufacturer has started testing the production-ready versions.

The image has been shared by Carwale on their website. The exact location of the test mule is not known; however, it looks like the SUV was spotted somewhere in North India. The electric SUV or the eVX test mule seen here in the image looks slightly different from the previous images. This is because of the wheels. The design of the wheels on this test mule looks different from the others.

The wheels seen here might be the ones that we see in the production version. The electric SUV is expected to get 5-spoke alloy wheels with an aerodynamic design to reduce drag. We cannot confirm at the moment if it is going to be a dual-tone or monotone wheel. We do not see anything unusual on the eVX other than the wheels in this image.

The Maruti eVX electric SUV is expected to be a game changer for Maruti. The manufacturer currently offers petrol, CNG, mild hybrid, and strong hybrid technology in their cars. The eVX would be the first electric vehicle to hit the production line. The eVX is going to be an SUV likely to be of the same dimensions as the Grand Vitara SUV.

The upcoming eVX will come with LED projector headlamps, a closed front grille with the Suzuki logo, muscular-looking front and rear bumpers, pillar-mounted door handles for the rear doors, electrically adjustable ORVMs with integrated turn indicators, LED tail lamps, a large floating-type touchscreen infotainment system, perforated leatherette upholstery, an all-new design for the dashboard and control switches, rotary dials for drive modes, and so on.

The electric SUV will also offer automatic climate control, a two-spoke steering wheel, and other features. The Maruti eVX is a highly anticipated model from the Indian manufacturer, and it is expected to come with a powerful electric motor and a long range. As per the reports that are surfacing online, the Maruti eVX is expected to get a 55-60 kWh battery pack, which will offer a driving range of around 500-550 km.

We’ll have to wait and see if this is going to be true or not. The Maruti eVX electric SUV is expected to be priced anywhere between Rs 20-25 lakh. The electric SUV will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Creta EV, Elevate EV, and Tata Harrier EV in the future.

As we already know, Toyota and Suzuki are in a partnership, and under this partnership, Toyota will also be launching their version of the eVX in the market. Toyota revealed images of the Toyota Urban SUV Concept some time ago.

Both the Toyota Urban SUV Concept and the Maruti eVX will use the heavily localized 27PL skateboard platform, which will be built in Gujarat. Both these SUVs are expected to get different-looking exterior designs with the same mechanical components. Toyota’s version of the Maruti eVX will be launched sometime after the launch of the eVX.
