The Altroz was Tata’s first-ever premium hatchback. It directly competes with cars like the Hyundai i20 and Maruti Baleno in the segment. When compared to its rivals, Tata has not updated the car much since its launch. That is about to change. Tata will be introducing new features and updating some of the existing ones in the Altroz.

The touchscreen infotainment system is going to be updated. The existing infotainment screen is small and not very responsive. Tata will be updating it with a brand new 10.25-inch unit. This is going to be the same unit that Tata already offers with the Nexon, Harrier, and Safari. The bigger screen is likely to be offered with the higher variants only. The lower variants will continue to get the same old 7-inch unit.

Apart from this, Tata will also offer a 360-degree camera with the Altroz. This would also act as a blind spot monitor, and as per the reports, Tata will be offering this feature with the XZ Lux variant and above. Additionally, the dated-looking instrument cluster will also be changed. The Altroz will be getting a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. We all know that the Altroz is one of the safest hatchbacks in its segment. However, Tata has decided to take things to the next level and will be offering six airbags on the top-end XZ+ S Lux variant.

Tata will also take away the leatherette upholstery which was offered with the Altroz until now. This will be replaced with fabric upholstery. The leatherette seat covers are removed from the regular Altroz because Tata will be offering them with the upcoming Altroz Racer version. Tata has also added new variants. The Altroz will be offered in XZ Lux, XZ+ S Lux, and XZ+ S Lux Dark variants.

Other than these new additions, everything else remains the same with the Altroz. The Tata Altroz is currently the only hatchback in its segment which offers both petrol and diesel engine options. The 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine generates 86 Bhp and 115 Nm of peak torque. This engine is available with a 5-speed manual and DCA gearbox option.

The 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine is available with 89 Bhp and 200 Nm of peak torque. Tata also offers a turbo petrol engine with the Altroz. This version is called the iTurbo and it uses a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine. This engine generates 108 Bhp and 140 Nm of peak torque. Other than the NA petrol engine, none of the other engines get an automatic transmission.

It needs to be seen if the Altroz Racer will have a sportier exhaust note like the i20 N Line. It will be powered by the same turbo petrol engine but it will generate more power. It will generate 120 Ps and 170 Nm and will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox only.
