Tata Altroz Racer: New TVC Starring Former F1 Driver Narain Karthikeyan Out

Tata Motors has launched an all new TVC (Television Video Commercial) for the sportier version of the Altroz which is called Altroz Racer. The 43 seconds lomg TVC is uploaded on the official YouTube channel of the brand named as Tata Motors Cars. Now, let’s delve into the details of the TVC.

The TVC starts with a drone shot of the race track and a racer gearing up to drive the Altroz Racer around the track. The driver is no other than Narain Karthikeyan who is a famous racing driver and the first Indian to compete in the Formula One. The TVC then shows the Altroz Racer from different angles.

In contrast to the regular Altroz, the Altroz Racer comes with various cosmetic and mechanical changes which we will discuss further. After these shots, Narain sits in the car, wears the seat belt and takes the performance focused hatchback for a spin round the race track. The TVC mainly emphasizes on the handling abilities and the performance of the Altroz Racer.

In the video, the car can be seen handling corners at high speeds without losing stability. The driver also drifts the car for a few seconds to highlight its performance. Now, let’s talk about the main USP of the Altroz Racer which is its engine.

The Altroz Racer is powered by a 1.2-litre three cylinder turbocharged petrol engine which is borrowed from its bigger sibling, the Tata Nexon. This engine produces about 118 PS of power and 170 Nm of torque.

This is the sole engine option the Altroz Racer is offered with. This unit is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. The option of an automatic transmission is not available with the Altroz Racer.

In addition to a different and much powerful engine, the Altroz Racer also comes with multiple sporty cosmetic changes in both the interior and the exterior.

The Altroz Racer does not lack in terms of tech as well. The key features of the hatchback include a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a 7-inch fully digital driver’s display. It also gets an 8-speaker sound system, ambient lighting, a sunroof, auto AC wireless phone charger, 360 degree camera cruise control, ventilated front seats (segment first), and air purifier.

The Altroz Racer is offered in three variants which are named as R1, R2 and the R3. The base R1 trim is priced at Rs. 9.49 lakh while the top end R3 trim is priced at Rs. 10.99 lakh. The mid-spec R2 trim is priced at Rs. 9.49 lakh. Please note that all the prices mentioned are ex-showroom.

The Altroz Racer directly rivals the Hyundai i20 N Line which is a performance focused version of the i20. While the i20 N Line gets a 7 speed twin clutch automatic gearbox on the higher variants, the Altroz Racer is a manual-only affair.  Other cars which are available at a similar price point include Tata Punch, Hyundai Exter, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno.
