Big Safety Boost: Volkswagen Virtus, Taigun Get 6 Airbags As Standard

The German automotive giant Volkswagen has announced that the Virtus and Taigun will now come standard with 6 airbags. According to the company 6 airbags will now be offered as standard across all the variants of these two popular offerings from the brand. Both of these models are based on the brand’s MQB A0-IN platform and have contributed to high sales volumes.

While announcing the new 6 airbags as standard offering with these models, Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, “Today, we take great pride in announcing our portfolio of India 2.0 cars offering 6 airbags as standard across the line-up.”

He added, “With this, not only are we showcasing our commitment towards safer mobility but also reaffirming our core belief of safety being a key product pillar for Volkswagen India.”

Gupta also highlighted, “We are also delighted to have achieved the over 1 lakh sales milestone by the Taigun and Virtus. We are grateful to our customers and will continue to offer aspirational, premium and competitive product offerings for the market.”

In addition to this announcement, the company also revealed insights abouts it’s sales. It stated that the Taigun compact SUV has contributed to over 61 percent of total sales in the country. Apart from this it also mentioned that around 40 percent of the customers of the brand have opted to go with the GT variants of both the Virtus and Taigun.

Volkswagen’s strategic shift in India

Just a few weeks ago, Ashish Gupta, the brand also shed some light on the company’s strategy shift in the Indian automotive market. He stated that the Volkswagen Group is not looking to re-enter the sub-Rs 10 lakh segment. The brand director highlighted that the Polo hatchback and other sub-Rs 10 lakh products will not be coming back to the market anytime soon.

Gupta then emphasized Volkswagen’s pivot towards a more upmarket positioning. He stated that they do not want to compete with volume-focused brands like Maruti Suzuki. Gupta also mentioned that the brand’s average price point has now gone up from Rs 7 lakh to Rs 16 lakh.

Volkswagen Virtus and Taigun facelifts coming soon

Although the Virtus and the Taigun are still pulling decent sales numbers. They have been out for a long time and are now due for a facelift. It has been reported that the company has started working on the updates for these models. Most likely the new facelifts for the Virtus and Taigun will be launched in the coming year of 2025.

Toyota Fortuner rival in the plans

It has also been reported that the company is contemplating the launch of the Tayron, the 7-seater SUV in India. As per sources, it is looking to launch this SUV in the full-size SUV segment to take on the mighty Toyota Fortuner.

If launched, the Tyron will cater to the demand for larger, family-oriented vehicles in the Rs 40-50 lakh price range. Currently, Volkswagen subsidiary Skoda sells the seven-seater Kodiaq in India. In addition Volkswagen is also looking to give a facelift to the current top-of-the-line SUV Tiguan in India. Reportedly it could be launched in 2025.
