The number of people opting for fancy numbers for their new cars has gone up in the recent past. Many people consider such numbers lucky and often pay a hefty amount to own them. In most cases, the owners of these cars pay lakhs to simply acquire the number. There have been cases where people have spent the cost of a new car just for the number. Here we have a list of 8 such cars, which we believe have some of the most expensive car number plates in the country.

Toyota Fortuner

What would happen if a huge fan of James Bond movies bought a car? Well, Ashik Patel is one such person. He likes the movies so much that when he bought a brand new Fortuner a few years ago, he decided to go for the fancy number “007”. Ashish wanted the number so badly that he spent Rs 34 lakh just for the registration. When he bought the car, the starting price of a Fortuner was Rs 30 lakh.

Porsche 718 Boxster

A businessman from Kerala, K.S. Balagopal, bought the registration number KL 01 CK 0001 for his Porsche 718 Boxster. Mr. Balagopal spent Rs 31 lakh for the registration number on his Boxster. The cost of the Porsche Boxster was around Rs 90 lakh then, and he spent one-third of the car’s cost on registration alone.

Toyota Land Cruiser LC200

This is another car that Mr. Balagopal owns. For this SUV, he bid for the 0001 registration and bought the number by paying Rs 18 lakh.

Toyota Land Cruiser LC200

This Land Cruiser LC200 is from Chandigarh. Rajit Singh from Chandigarh spent almost Rs 17 lakh in an auction for a fancy number on his Land Cruiser. He bought the CH 01 AN 0001 registration number for his SUV with the money.

Jaguar XJ L

The Jaguar XJ L sedan is not offered in the market anymore. However, it was once the flagship sedan from Jaguar in India. Rahul Taneja is a successful businessman who started off as an auto-rickshaw driver. He believes in numerology, and that is one of the reasons why he bought the number 1 for his car. The most expensive registration plate in Jaipur belongs to his Jaguar XJ L. He spent around Rs 16 lakh on the number RJ 45 CG 0001.

BMW 5-Series

Rahul Taneja also owns a BMW 5-Series. In fact, this was his first car. Rahul Taneja spent Rs 10.31 lakh for this registration number. He sold the 5-Series but retained the number and is using it on his 7-Series.

Mukesh Ambani

How can we write about expensive number plates and not include the name of the richest Indian? Mukesh Ambani owns several expensive and exotic cars in his garage. One such car is his Rolls Royce Cullinan. Ambani bought his third Rolls Royce Cullinan last year, and it was special because the SUV got a paint job worth Rs 1 crore.

However, in this case, Mukesh Ambani had to spend Rs 12 lakh because the RTO (Regional Transport Office) informed him that the number was selected from a new series, as all the numbers from the current series were already taken.

A Telangana-based businessman bought the registration TG 09 9999 for a whopping Rs 25.5 lakh. The car is owned by a businessman who runs Soni Transport Solutions. He bought the fancy number for his Land Cruiser, which costs Rs 2.1 crore, ex-showroom.
