Heavy fog causes massive pile-up involving several cars in Bengaluru [video]

Serial collission inBengaluru

Winter has arrived in most parts of India and during this time of the year and it is actually that time of the year when one has to be extremely careful while driving on the road. Dense fog or smog covers the road in many North Indian states and that makes things challenging. It is not just North India that faces this issue. Here we have a video from Bengaluru where a massive pile-up involving at least 8 vehicle was reported due to heavy fog on the road. The video surfacing online shows how bad the crash was.

The video has been shared by Christin Mathew Philip on Twitter. The video was recorded from a car that was passing through the road just after the crash. The accident happened on Bengaluru airport road and as per the post the cause of this serial collision was heavy fog. The accident happened on Monday morning. The video was recorded few seconds after the crash because we can see couple of occupants walking out of the car to safety.

At least 8 cars were involved in this collision and none of the passengers in the car were seriously injured. As seen in the video here, most of the vehicles involved in the collision are taxis which were probably going to the airport. Some of these taxis were transporting cabin crew or airline staff as well.

Driving in winters is a huge task in itself. If you live in a region where smog or fog affects the vision of drivers on road one must be careful. If possible try to avoid travelling in such conditions as it can lead to serious accidents like the one see here. If it is an unavoidable situation, try to follow a couple of things to increase the visbility of your vehicle. Drive at a constant speed and if you spot any vehicle in front of you, maintain a safe distance with that vehicle.

Also keep the headlights and fog lamps of your vehicles On. Do not use high beam as the smog would simply reflect the light back to your eyes and make things difficult for you. Also if you are using white LED lights, they are not very effective in such situations. If possible go for a light with yellow tint that can easily cut through the snow. Do not increase or decrease your speed suddenly as the person in front of you or behind you may not get enough time to slow down.

Never use hazard lamps if your vehicle is moving. It is meant to be used when you park your vehicle on the road side. If your car breaks down on a road, you should first try to drive the car to the left shoulder of the road, park it and turn on the hazard lamps to inform other road users about the location of your vehicle.  The reason why we feel the accident in Bengaluru happened was because of poor visibility. The cars passing through the road were probably not maintaining a safe distance and when a car at the front applied brakes, the car driver behind it couldn’t respond on time and this lead to the serial collision that we see here.
