In India, two major Japanese manufacturers, Maruti Suzuki and Honda, embody these qualities in their vehicles. The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara has already established its presence in the midsize SUV segment, showcasing these virtues. Now, Honda aims to follow the same path with its upcoming entry, the all-new Elevate.

Both the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Honda Elevate boast bold and upright designs, capturing attention with their fresh looks. While the Grand Vitara’s split headlamp and tail lamp assembly and larger panoramic sunroof give it a distinctive touch, the Honda Elevate stays competitive with its larger front grille and additional fog lamps.

LED headlamps, tail lamps, slim roof rails, and body cladding contribute to the stylish appearance of both SUVs. Inside the cabins, leather upholsteries provide comfort, with the Elevate boasting a dual-tone black and tan combination for a refreshing touch. In terms of convenience features, both vehicles are closely matched.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Vs Honda cabin

The Smart Hybrid version of the Grand Vitara and the Elevate offer comparable features, including a 4.2-inch TFT MID in the instrument console and a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The Elevate, however, offers a slightly smaller sunroof but compensates with a 7-inch TFT screen in the instrument console and a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Both SUVs are equipped with wireless chargers, push start-stop buttons, automatic climate control, and rear AC vents. The Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid version packs more features, such as a head-up display, full-TFT instrument console, and ventilated front seats, for those seeking additional amenities.

Under the hood, the Honda Elevate comes with the 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine from the City, available in two transmission options – 6-speed manual and CVT. With a maximum power output of 121 PS and peak torque of 145 Nm, the Elevate surpasses the Grand Vitara, which claims 103 PS of power and 138 Nm of torque from its 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine.

While the Elevate boasts higher power and torque figures on paper, the Grand Vitara takes the lead in terms of fuel efficiency. In manual transmission versions, the Grand Vitara claims 21.11 kmpl compared to the Elevate’s 15.31 kmpl. For automatic versions, the Grand Vitara claims 20.58 kmpl, while the Elevate CVT returns 16.92 kmpl. The Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid, with its 1.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid powertrain, boasts an even higher 27.97 kmpl fuel efficiency.

Honda plans to launch the all-new Elevate in September 2023, targeting the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and other competitors in the midsize SUV segment, including Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, MG Astor, and the upcoming Citroen C3 Aircross.
