Introduction
Hyundai introduced the N-Line range in India with the i20 N-Line last year. Expanding the performance-oriented trim, Hyundai has now launched the Venue N-Line in September 2023. The compact SUV gets minor cosmetic tweaks inside-out along with suspension changes to make it more engaging to drive. It is powered by the same 1.0L turbo-petrol as the standard Venue.
Build Quality
The Venue N-Line is identical to the standard Venue in dimensions and continues to be underpinned by the same platform. High strength steel has been used generously lending structural rigidity. Fit and finish is also similar and overall build quality feels robust. The suspension has been recalibrated for a sportier edge but Hyundai has maintaining ride quality as well. Exterior Design
Visually differentiating the N-Line are several red accents on the exterior. The front grille gets an all-new dark chrome finish surrounded by red inserts. The bumper is also redesigned and the skid plates get red detailing. At the rear, the skid plate, reflectors and shark fin antenna are done in red. Twin exhaust tips and 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels with red wheel caps round off the exterior changes imparting a more aggressive stance.
Interior Design
Inside the dark themed cabin, the Venue N-Line scores red accents on the AC vents, seats and gear lever. The flat-bottom steering wheel features the N logo and red stitching. Seats get N-branded leatherette upholstery with contrast red stitching. The all-black headliner and metal pedals add to the sporty ambience. Besides visual differentiation, the N-Line shares its interior layout and equipment with the standard Venue. Space and ergonomics also remain similar.
Features and Practicality
The Venue N-Line is based on the mid SX variant and additionally gets dash camera and traction modes. Equipment highlights include an 8-inch touchscreen, electric sunroof, cruise control, and projector headlamps. However, the omission of rear AC vents is a miss. As a compact SUV, practicality is decent with usable cabin space for four adults and 355 liters of boot space expandable with 60:40 folding rear seats.
Engine and Performance
Powering the N-Line is the familiar 1.0L turbo-GDI petrol engine belting out 120hp and 172Nm torque, mated to a manual or 7-speed DCT. Performance remains identical with brisk acceleration once turbo lag is overcome. The motor revs smoothly and power delivery is linear. The manual is slick shifting with the DCT offering quick shifts sans any lag in Sport mode. Clutch bite could be smoother in stop-go traffic though.
Ride and Handling
Hyundai has stiffened the suspension setup on the N-Line for improved dynamics. Straight line stability is confidence inspiring and the car remains well planted at higher speeds. Around corners, body roll is contained thanks to the recalibrated suspension. However, ride has become firmer, absorbing bumps with a sharper thud. The steering weighs up adequately but lacks feel. Grip from the 195/55 tyres is also adequate for spirited driving.
Price and Verdict
The Venue N-Line is priced from Rs. 12.08 to Rs. 13.9 lakh or about Rs. 1 lakh over the SX variant it is based on. The sportier exterior styling, suspension tweaks and interior accents help distinguish it over the regular Venue. For enthusiasts looking to buy a fun-to-drive compact SUV with turbo-petrol power, the Venue N-Line is an appealing choice.
