Hyundai Verna 1.5 Turbo DCT: Owner Compares It To VW Virtus/Skoda Slavia [Video]

Hyundai launched the updated version of their popular sedan, Verna, in the Indian market on March 21, 2023. The looks of the sedan are a hit or miss, but its performance did not disappoint. The car is powered by a 1.5-litre turbo GDi petrol engine, producing a massive 160 hp and 253 Nm of torque, the highest in the segment.

This is the same engine that powers the Creta N-Line. The car rivals other players such as Volkswagen Virtus, Skoda Slavia, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Honda City. However, due to its impressive power figures, Slavia and Virtus are the only appropriate rivals for the Verna. Today, with the help of a YouTube video, we will learn which car is the best among the three from the perspective of a Verna owner.

The YouTube video is uploaded by “Sanjeet Jaat” which the 1.5 litre Turbo DCT Verna. The car is around eight months old and it is the top of the line variant bought at a price of Rs. 20 lakhs. The car is driven around 8300 kilometres.

The video starts with the YouTuber questioning the owner of Verna that why he didn’t go for Volkswagen Virtus. The owner mentions that he owns a Hyundai i20 as well and he has trust in the brand. Also, the parts for German cars, such as the Slavia and Virtus, are comparatively expensive.

The host then asked the owner about the Hyundai service experience. As the owner was already a Hyundai customer, he was very satisfied with the service. He compares their service with Tata and Mahindra, and the overall experience of Hyundai is the best. Currently, the car is giving a mileage of around 8-10 KMPL in city driving conditions, and the owner mentions that he got around 20 KMPL on the highway.

The owner talks about the heating problem of the DCT gearbox. After two to three high-speed runs, the performance of the car drops, but in normal driving conditions, no such issues are faced. The gear shifting is smooth, and no jerks are felt.

He then goes on talking about the usefulness of ADAS features. The Honda City and Verna are the only cars with ADAS in the segment. Some reports suggest that it could be introduced in Virtus and Slavia soon.

Verna is loaded with features. It has multiple first in segment features including dual 10.25 inch displays, heated and ventilated seats (heated seats is a unique feature), switchable HVAC controls and Bose surround sound system. The display has no lag, which is commonly seen in Mahindra cars.

Comparing the Verna to its previous generation, this one has improved cabin space. The Hyundai Verna has the longest wheelbase in the segment. The current Verna measures around 2670 mm in wheelbase, which is 70 mm more than the previous generation. The owner mentions that the vehicle’s ground clearance is less and it has to be driven with caution.

Talking about the performance, the owner mentions that he has won multiple races against Virtus. The sedan can touch top speed of 219 km/h compared to the 203 km/h of Virtus. With great performance, braking needs to be top-notch as well. Hyundai Verna comes equipped with all four disc brakes.

Hyundai Verna boasts a range of safety features, including an Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC), Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW), Six Airbags, Rear Camera with Dynamic Guidelines, Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) and a range of ADAS features.
