India’s most famous Mercedes Benz SL that’s also called the ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ car: In images

Whenever in a movie, a superstar has to make a huge and imposing entrance, sports cars and luxury cars are used. This thing was especially more prevalent during the 2000s era. Recently, a few pictures of one of the most iconic sports cars from one of the most iconic movies were spotted at a show. If you are wondering which car we are talking about, then it’s the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL-24 from the movie “Dil Chahta Hai.”

Recently, a few pictures of this legendary car from the movie starring three of the biggest stars from Bollywood were shared on Facebook. The pictures of the exact Mercedes-Benz 300 SL-24 have been shared by Car Crazy India. The pictures show the Blue Mercedes-Benz 300 SL-24 in front of a picturesque photo booth. The last of the pictures from the post shows this iconic hardtop convertible being used in the movie.

The car looks like its in great condition. We do not know where it has been displayed. This is a car 90s kids would love to own, but there are very few examples available in good condition in India.

Dil Chahta Hai

For those who are not old enough, the movie “Dil Chahta Hai” was a massive hit movie. The movie featured Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Akshay Khanna. The movie was based on the friendship of three college friends who, after college, went their own ways and then reunited with a road trip. The movie represented a generation that attempted to traverse through the intricacies of life, relationships, and self-discovery. It was one of the highest-rated Indian Bollywood movies.

Mercedes-Benz 300 SL-24

Now, as for the car itself in the pictures, it is the same car that was driven by the three friends in the movie – the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL-24, to be specific. The 300 SL belongs to the R129 generation of the model and was one of the most successful models that the German luxury carmaker sold.

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL-24 used in the movie and here in the pictures was powered by a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine. This hardtop sports car was able to produce a maximum power of 231 bhp and 272 Nm of torque. It came equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission and featured a rear-wheel-drive layout.

Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR

In other Mercedes 300 SL news, one of the rarest iterations of this iconic sports car – the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR – last year sold for an astonishing price of $143 million. The iconic Canadian auction house RM Sotheby’s announced that they have hammered down the sale of this car, which became the world’s most expensive car sold in an auction. RM Sotheby’s auctioned off the 300 SLR for a whopping €135,000,000 or $143 million. The 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe was one of the only two prototypes of this car that were ever built by the Mercedes-Benz racing department.

A private automotive collector who chose to remain anonymous placed the winning bid of €135 million ($143 million). This Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR broke the previous record of the most expensive car sold at auction, which was held by the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO sold by RM Sotheby’s in 2018. The Mercedes prototype race car broke the existing record by more than €90 million ($95 million). The astounding 300 SLR was based on the highly celebrated and successful W 196 R Grand Prix vehicle, which won two World Championships in Juan Manuel Fangio’s hands.
