Thar auctioned by Guruvayur temple

This is not the first time Mahindra has gifted a car to the Guruvayur temple in Kerala. In 2021, the manufacturer gifted the Mahindra Thar AX soft top variant. The car was initially auctioned to Mr. Ali, which created a lot of controversy. Later, the first auction was canceled, and it was later auctioned to Vignesh Vijayakumar, a Non-Resident Indian businessman from Dubai, for Rs 50 lakh, including taxes. The Mahindra Thar offered to the temple was actually the AX soft top variant. The pictures of the SUV are already available online. As this is the base variant, it does not come with alloy wheels or other features that higher variants come with. It comes with white-painted steel rims, basic interiors, no infotainment system, side-facing bench seats for rear passengers, AC, and so on.

Mahindra launched a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version of the Thar in the market earlier this year. The car is available with a smaller 1.5-litre diesel engine and a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Mahindra is currently working on a couple of new models for the market. One of them is the Thar 5-door, which is expected to be unveiled globally in the next couple of months. The official launch of the SUV is expected to happen sometime next year.
