Mahindra Thar (Armada) 5 door: Launch and production timeline revealed

One of the most anticipated new car launches of this year, the Mahindra Thar 5-door is reported to be hitting the production floors in June 2024. It indicates that Mahindra might be launching the new five-door Thar on 15th August, a date which has become synonymous with Mahindra’s new product launches or concept unveilings. The five-door version of Mahindra Thar has already been spied several times on Indian roads in heavily camouflaged form, with the most recent sightings by ACI also indicating that the SUV has reached its final stages of testing in near-production form.

The new reports around the Mahindra Thar 5-door, which is touted to be named Mahindra Thar Armada, will be made on the same production line on which the currently available three-door Thar is being made.

However, despite the already long order backlogs of three-door Thar, the production of the new five-door version on the same production line will not impact the production of the former. Mahindra is believed to be setting a monthly production target of 4,000 units of Thar five-door. Also Read: Mahindra Thar 5-door Launch Just Months Away: All Known Details

Based on the same platform as that of the Thar 3-door, the new Mahindra Thar 5-door will have a stretched wheelbase to accommodate the rear door panels. To distinguish it from the current Thar, Mahindra might tweak the exterior design of the 5-door Thar, which is believed to get a slightly different-looking front grille, bumpers, alloy wheels and projector headlamps.

The interior of the Mahindra Thar 5-door will also be slightly different from the three-door Thar, with the sightings of the test mule confirming that the former will be getting a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Mahindra recently updated the XUV400 electric SUV with a new 10.25-inch infotainment system, and it is this screen which might be introduced in the new 5-door Thar. The cabin will also be updated with more premium features like automatic climate control with rear AC vents, engine push start-stop button, new multi-functional steering wheel from XUV700, front and rear centre armrests, sunroof and more.

A closer look at the Mahindra Thar five-door reveals that its cabin layout closely resembles that of the three-door Thar already on sale. However, the cabin has been upgraded with more modern comfort and convenience features, all of which are missing in the Thar three-door. The five-door version of the Mahindra Thar has been seen with a larger touchscreen infotainment system, rear AC vents, a push start-stop button, and automatic climate control. It also features a different multi-functional steering wheel borrowed from the XUV700.

The new Mahindra Thar 5-door will share its 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engine options with the Thar 3-door 4×4, with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission choices. Given its larger size and significant changes, the new Mahindra Thar 5-door will be priced more than the 3-door Thar, making it a more premium offering over the other 4×4 offerings in this segment, including Maruti Suzuki Jimny and upcoming Force Gurkha 5-door.
