Mahindra XUV700 Owner Uses ADAS To Drive In Heavy Fog: Video

The Northern states of India are known for experiencing extremely cold weather and as a result of this the roads of these states get covered in fog. After this happens the visibility becomes zero and drivers have to drive at extremely slow speeds in order to avoid getting involved in any crash. However, this particular Mahindra XUV700 was driving at a decent speed despite zero visibility due to dense fog all because of the help from ADAS. This driver has shared a video showing the XUV700’s radar-based ADAS performed flawlessly during such an adverse driving condition.

The video of this good use of Mahindra XUV700’s ADAS has been shared on Instagram by Pankaj Pal Traveling Habit on their channel. It starts off with the owner of the SUV mentioning that even in dense fog the car provides full driving assistance and helps a lot. He mentions that the digital instrument gauge cluster shows the path and the XUV700 is driving itself despite no visibility. He adds that there is no car in front but there is huge line behind them as their car is driving at a constant speed. He also adds that the ADAS is giving them huge confidence. Mahindra XUV700’s ADAS

For those who may not be aware the Mahindra XUV700 ADAS comes equipped with Level 2 ADAS. The list of ADAS features offered with the SUV include adaptive cruise control, high beam assist, traffic sign recognition, automatic emergency braking, front collision warning, lane keep assist, smart pilot assist, lane departure warning and driver drowsiness system. The more important thing about the XUV700’s ADAS level 2 is that it uses the more expensive and reliable Radar and Camera based ADAS. This type of ADAS is more efficient and can perform optimally in conditions like fog.

Two types of ADAS

In general there are two types of ADAS. The first is a radar and camera-based system and the second is just a camera-based system. Both of these offer driving assistance but there are major differences. The more expensive radar and camera-based ADAS relies on radio frequency signals to detect objects and obstacles around the vehicle. This system emits electromagnetic waves, and by analyzing the reflections from surrounding objects, it determines the distance, speed, and relative movement of these objects. This ability makes radar based ADAS particularly effective in adverse weather conditions, such as rain, fog, or snow, where visibility is compromised just like the above video.

On the other hand, the camera-based ADAS which we see in cars like Honda Elevate utilizes visual sensors. This system comes with cameras which are typically mounted on the vehicle’s exterior, to capture images and videos of the surroundings. These cars utilize advanced image processing algorithms to analyze these visuals to identify objects, lane markings, traffic signs, and pedestrians. These cameras provide high-resolution images and detailed information about the environment, making them valuable for tasks like lane departure warnings, traffic sign recognition, and pedestrian detection. However, they generally face challenges in low-light conditions or inclement weather, where visibility is reduced.
