The Maruti Grand Vitara, launched with much fanfare in April 2023, has seen a steady climb in prices since its debut. • Launch (April 2023): The Grand Vitara entered the market with a starting price of Rs. 10.45 lakh for the base Sigma variant, reaching Rs. 19.64 lakh for the top-end Alpha+ strong hybrid.
• First Hike (August 2023): Prices witnessed a jump of Rs. 20,000 for strong hybrid variants and Rs. 10,000 for mild hybrid options. This revision took the entry price to Rs. 10.55 lakh and the top-end to Rs. 20.04 lakh.
• Second Hike (November 2023): Another upward revision of Rs. 10,000 across all variants pushed the starting price to Rs. 10.65 lakh and the top-end to Rs. 20.14 lakh.
• Third Hike (January 2024): The latest hike applies to select variants, mainly the Delta, Zeta, and Alpha. Prices increased by Rs. 10,000, making the current starting price Rs. 10.80 lakh and the top-end Rs. 20.09 lakh.

Reasons for Price Increases:

Maruti Suzuki attributes these hikes to rising input costs, primarily for raw materials and components. Global supply chain disruptions and inflationary pressures are also cited as contributing factors. While these reasons hold merit, some industry experts suggest Maruti is capitalizing on the strong initial demand for the Grand Vitara to maximize profits.

The Grand Vitara boasts a modern design, fuel-efficient engine options (including a strong hybrid variant), and a feature-packed interior. It competes directly with established players like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and the Honda City. While its hybrid technology and Maruti’s brand trust were initial selling points, the price hikes have narrowed the gap with its competitors, making the decision for potential buyers more complex.
