Maruti Swift & Hyundai Creta are India’s best selling car & SUV for March 2021

Indian car market had suffered a lot last year because of the pandemic. Almost every manufacturer had to shut their manufacturing facilities and dealerships because of the pandemic. It was only post lockdown, automobile market in the country started to revive. Slowly, the sales number started rising and now in 2021, almost all the brands have now managed to come out from the crisis and are doing pretty well. That is visible in the monthly sales as well. According to the sales report of March 2021, Maruti Suzuki Swift is India’s best selling hatchback and Hyundai Creta takes the crown for best selling SUV.

The report has been shared by Auto Punditz on their website. According to the sales report of March 2021, Maruti Suzuki had sold 21,714 units of Swift hatchback across the country. Maruti had launched the 2021 version of this popular hatchback in the market recently. The Swift has outsold, Maruti’s other affordable models like Alto and WagonR. In comparison to march last year, Maruti Suzuki has sold 153 percent more. In March 2021, Maruti had only sold 8,575 units of Swift hatchbacks.

Coming to the SUVs, which is again one of the most popular segment in the country. Hyundai Creta has performed well. Hyundai had launched the all-new Creta in the market during Covid times and still managed to be a successful product. Within months after the launch, Hyundai had received over 1.5 lakh booking for the SUV. In March 2021, Hyundai has sold 12,640 units of Creta SUVs in the country. Creta has seen a rise of 88 percent in sale when compared to March 2020. Last year, same time Hyundai had only sold 6,706 units of Creta across the country.

In top 10 best selling vehicles in India, Maruti Suzuki Swift has got the pole position whereas the Hyundai Creta has positioned itself in the fifth place. In the top 10 list of best selling vehicles, seven positions have been occupied by country’s largest manufacturer and the remaining spots are occupied by Hyundai, which is country’s second largest car manufacturer.

Second best selling car in the country is Maruti Baleno. Maruti sold 21217 units of this premium hatchback across the country. With 18,757 units sold, Maruti Suzuki WagonR is the third best selling car in the country followed by Alto (17,401 units), Hyundai Creta, Maruti Eeco, Maruti Dzire sedan, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Grand i10 and Hyundai Venue.

Coming back to Swift, the 2021 version has received some cosmetic changes along with a more powerful engine. It is now powered by a 1.2 litre DualJet petrol engine that generates 89 Ps and 113 Nm of peak torque. The hatchback is only available with petrol engine and comes with manual and AMT gearbox options. The Hyundai Creta on the other hand is available with a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that comes with manual and CVT gearbox option, a 1.5 litre diesel engine that comes with manual and 6-speed automatic transmission and a 1.4 litre turbo petrol version that comes with a 7-speed DCT gearbox option only. Like many other Hyundai cars, Creta is also a feature loaded vehicle and that is one of the reason behind its popularity.
