The second generation Hyundai Creta was launched in mid-2020 amidst much anticipation. With a bold new design, premium interior, extensive features and updated BS6 petrol/diesel engines, the new Creta aims to redefine the mid-size SUV segment. It competes with the Kia Seltos, Renault Duster and Nissan Kicks primarily.

Build Quality

The new generation Creta is based on Hyundai’s Global Small Platform which makes it longer, wider and sit lower than before. Use of advanced high strength steel enhances rigidity and safety. Engine and Performance

Petrol engine options include a 1.5L making 115hp and 144Nm along with a 1.4L turbo-petrol belting out 140hp and 242Nm torque. The proven 1.5L diesel is tuned to produce 113hp and 250Nm torque. Both manual and automatic gearboxes are available. Performance is brisk with smooth response across the rev range. The turbo-petrol shows urgency while the diesel excels with usable torque. The gearboxes are slick shifting as well.

Ride and Handling

The Creta impresses with its refinement and dynamics balancing comfort and agility. The suspension soaks up bumps nicely at lower speeds while stability remains composed up to triple digit speeds. The steering weighs up well and is accurate at higher speeds. There is some body roll but grip levels are assured. Braking performance with discs all around is also strong. Overall, the Creta displays car-like manners belying its size and weight.

Hyundai has priced the Creta from Rs. 10.87-19.20 lakh, ex-showroom. It is phenomenal value for the money providing European luxury car levels of styling, packaging, performance and equipment.
