At a price tag of Rs. 15.35 lakh, the Tata Safari base XE variant is the most affordable trim in the SUV’s line-up; Find out all the necessary details about this trim in a walkaround review.
Tata Motors launched the new Safari in February 2021 and it shared the underpinnings with its 5-seater sibling, the Harrier. The homegrown automaker also introduced a new XMS trim to Safari’s line-up in order to further diversify the range of choices for the customers. As of today, the Safari is available in 7 trims, namely XE, XM, XMS, XT, XT+, XZ and XZ+ trim levels and gets both 6 and 7-seater configurations. Apart from this, the SUV gets a bunch of special editions such as Dark, Kaziranga, Adventure Persona, Gold and Jet Edition. Currently, Safari is the flagship product of Tata Motors in India. The base XE trim of the SUV is the most affordable Safari you can buy right now and it will set you back by Rs. 15.35 lakh (ex-showroom). Tata Safari base XE trim: Details
In terms of design, the base XE trim sports the chrome studded signature Tri-Arrow front grille encased by the humanity line. The grille is flanked by a set of halogen indicators which also double up as DRLs. Coming down, it gets a combination of projector and reflector-based halogen headlight set-up similar to the top-spec trims, however, it misses out on fog lamps. Coming to the sides, the SUV gets 16-inch steel wheels shod with 235-section tyres as opposed to the 18-inch alloy wheels on the top-spec trims. Other notable elements of the side profile include gloss black ORVMs, side body cladding, body-coloured door handles and iconic functional roof rails with Safari branding. At the back, the base trim misses out on a rear wiper washer and defogger but gets the high-mounted stop lamp and dual muffler design. The base trim gets a rather simple key with no central locking function.
Inside the cabin, the base trim gets a dual-tone black and beige finish throughout and the colour pattern is constant on the seats, door panels as well as dashboard. In terms of equipment, Tata Motors has altogether skipped the infotainment system and steering-mounted audio controls in the base variant. It gets all four power windows, manual joystick type adjustment for ORVMs, dual pod analogue instrument cluster, sunglass holder, manual AC and reading lamps for 1st and 2nd row amongst others.
Tata Safari: Diesel-only SUV
The Safari is priced in the range of Rs. 15.35 lakh to Rs. 23.56 lakh (ex-showroom). Powering the SUV is a 2.0 litre Fiat-sourced Kryotec diesel engine putting out 170 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. It is based on the OMEGARC (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Architecture) platform, derived from JLR’s D8 platform.
