Upcoming Maruti’s Creta-rival YFG spotted testing

With the discontinuation of the S-Cross from Maruti Suzuki India’s lineup, the anticipation for the upcoming midsize SUV from India’s largest carmaker has grown even more. The SUV has been spied under trial runs in and around Gurgaon, where the carmaker’s largest production facility is located. The all-new upcoming midsize SUV, which has been codenamed YFG by Maruti Suzuki, has been spotted again. The latest spotting by Gaadiwale has revealed more new details that were not available earlier.

Starting from the front, this new Maruti Suzuki SUV gets a wide-open grille and split headlamp setup, which has become very common nowadays with SUVs like Hyundai Venue and Tata Harrier being the trendsetters. The lower parts of the headlamps are positioned beside the grille and incorporate projector bulbs, which are expected to be LED units given the norm in the segment to which it belongs. The upper part of this split headlamps setup is positioned just below the edges of the bonnet and house turn indicators. The bonnet of this SUV gets a raised central hump, which makes the SUV look bigger and more muscular.

This new SUV from Maruti Suzuki looks large and butch from the side as well. While the entire body of the SUV is camouflaged, we can make that the SUV will lack dramatic lines and follow a more conservative approach with smoother looking creases. The Maruti Suzuki SUV gets squared wheel arches and five-spoke alloy wheels, which are expected to be diamond-cut units in the higher variants. The SUV also has slim roof rails, outside rearview mirrors with integrated turn signals and large window panels, including those of the rear quarter panel.

At the back, the Maruti Suzuki SUV gets a roof spoiler, shark fin antenna and license plate housing on the lower part of the boot lid, much like that in the Hyundai Creta. What’s interesting here is the split pattern for the tail lamp assembly. While the main tail lamps are placed in their conventional place on the lower edges of the windscreen, the rear bumper has turn indicators and reverse lamps placed vertically on the corners of the rear bumper.

This new Maruti Suzuki SUV is said to be based on Toyota’s DNGA platform, which will also underpin the upcoming similar-sized SUV from Toyota. While the mechanical details of this SUV are not much available at the moment, it is said that it will be launched as a petrol-only model.

The SUV will have a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine as standard, which will be offered in two transmission choices of 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox or CVT. Even a pure hybrid version of the SUV is said to be in the works, which will be offered in a niche range-topping variant.
