Woman biker on Royal Enfield threatens cops after being stopped by officer on Bandra-Worli Sea link: Arrested [Video]

The road infrastructure in India is developing at a very good pace. There are highway renovations and widening projects underway in many parts of the country. In numerous places, expressways connect the metro cities. On most expressways, two-wheelers are not allowed. This restriction is in place because motorcycles and two-wheelers are slow vehicles that could create problems for other road users on such expressways. It’s not just expressways that prohibit two-wheelers; many bridges also have similar restrictions. The Bandra-Worli sea link is one such example. Recently, a woman rider on a motorcycle threatened and verbally abused a police officer who stopped her for riding on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.

A video circulating online shows a woman riding a Royal Enfield motorcycle engaged in an argument with the police officers. According to reports, the woman was arguing with a Mumbai traffic police officer on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, where two-wheelers are not allowed. The woman riding the bike has been identified as Nupur Patel, a 26-year-old from Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur. The incident occurred on September 15th. The officer stopped Nupur when they spotted the bike on the bridge. Nupur was visiting her brother in Mumbai and took her brother’s motorcycle for a ride within the city.

Nupur wanted to see the sea link, which is why she rode the bike on it. Since she doesn’t reside in Mumbai, she was unaware that two-wheelers were not allowed on this stretch. The problems began when the woman was stopped by the police officer. When the officers stopped her, she started arguing and verbally abusing the officer. She even threatened the officer, stating that if they didn’t let her go, she would knock them down and ride away. Reports suggest that despite the officers’ requests for her to dismount the motorcycle, the woman continued to argue and abuse the officer and the system.

Nupur was completely unaware of the regulations and likely had no idea that two-wheelers were not allowed. However, she ignored all the signboards that are posted before the sea link begins and at the entrance. Nupur continued to argue when the officers asked her to provide her driver’s license and vehicle registration documents. She even called the officer illiterate and informed them that she is a central government employee. When the officers asked her to accompany them to the police station, she produced what appeared to be a pistol but later turned out to be a cigarette lighter.

The police took this matter seriously and seized the lighter, the motorcycle, and also brought Nupur to the police station for questioning. Her brother, who resides in Mumbai, was informed later on. A case has been registered in this matter, and Nupur has been charged under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of their duty), 186 (voluntarily obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their public functions), 279 (rash driving), 336 (acts endangering the life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code, and sections including 129 (driving without a helmet) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
